Alvaro is originally from Chile and decided to go to Sweden with his French passport, just after taking his degree as a physician. He applied for over 100 jobs in 6 months as a keeper, a job which he was overqualified for. When he ran out of money, he was forced to work with whatever was available. This picture was taken right before he went to work on his first day as a dishwasher, which he did for 3 months. Today he lives in Chile and is a practicing physician.

Each year around the advent of St Knut’s Day the residents of the islands northwest of Gothenburg divide into something that, curiously enough, by tradition holds them together. During the spruce wars people are looking, hiding and stealing as many spruces as possible from each others areas to build the highest Easter lighthouse to illuminate the night of Good Friday. Despite stories about fights and beatings, great hiding places and ambitious ventures, the spruce wars for most people are an excuse to party, more than anything else.

Scars have always fascinated me. They tell us a lot: of everything beyond the ideal surface – the flawless exterior.

For 99 kr, you get a one bed cabin, two meals and afterwards its time for a dance. You walk around, perhaps to get a feeling of solidarity or to escape everyday life. In the middle of the night the boat berths in Västerhamn.

Swedes seem to have missed the point that the rule “Do not talk to strangers” only applies to children.

Many young people from immigrant backgrounds dream of a better future as others do, and in this case like many others, they find it through sports. In the picture Jonathan is depicted playing in Los Copihues, a Chilean soccer club in the 5th series. They play not only for a better future but also to have a place where they can hang out with Latin American friends who speak the same language and have similar values in life.

The Photo Book about Sweden / Fotoboken om Sverige
Citizen Photojournalism Project which resulted in a book and exhibitions where 44 young photographer depicted Sweden, in a contrast to a Sweden which normally is depicted in a static and romantized way with red cottages, ABBA, midsummer, dark forests and blondes. Instead of letting journalists depict young people and their lives. We created a space where young people could take back their right to interpret their own reality. Depicting themselves and putting emphasis on the things that they felt was interesting or important.
